The cabochon opal in this ring measures 11.3mm x 8.2mm x 4.4mm. The opal has a gorgeous play of color. The opal is surrounded by about 1ct of chunky old mine cut diamonds.
The opal and the diamonds are set in 20k gold. 20k is an unusual alloy, but during the Victorian period unusual alloys (20k/15k etc.) were somewhat commonplace. The high purity gold has a much richer gold color than even most 18k gold alloys.
